Alison Hill’s Bio

Alison Hill is a writer, journalist and Emmy nominated producer, who has produced and directed hundreds of television shows, news segments and online videos on both sides of the Atlantic. Since 2001 she has been a regular guest commentator on BBC radio news shows discussing US political and social issues.

Alison grew up in a small village in the mountains of Snowdonia, North Wales, and is a fluent Welsh speaker. She moved to the United States straight after graduating college (because of a man!) and is now living in South Carolina. She is a stay at home mom and a freelance writer and producer. Oh yes, she’s also an aspiring horror novelist and wants to become the female Stephen King…

Alison loves to shop and is a renowned bargain hunter, scouring thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, and consignment shops for vintage decor, antique books, and Mid Century Modern furniture, as well as brand name and designer clothes. You’ll sometimes spot her selling at the Raleigh flea market.

She wrote the workbook for authors: Media Ready, Media Savvy (a Clearsight Multimedia Book) in 2012 and has given numerous presentations and workshops on media readiness for authors in the Raleigh/Durham area in North Carolina. Alison was also a guest speaker at the Triangle Association of Freelancers (TAF) Write Now! annual Writers Conference in 2012.

Alison has enjoyed a diverse media career. Following a brief stint as a newspaper reporter in a small coastal town, she quickly moved into television investigative journalism with a prime time ITV (HTV Wales) current affairs show (broadcast on Channel 4 Wales.) One of her most daring assignments involved going undercover with an alleged religious cult and secretly filming. In the US Alison worked as a producer for a PBS station in Denver, Colorado, where she also directed, technical directed, and performed voice-overs. She also hosted an Emmy nominated series about indy filmmakers, several political shows, and the series Quantum Factor.

As a freelancer she shot, wrote, directed, produced and edited an award winning documentary (and informational video) on therapeutic horse riding, Mountin’ Hopes, and has produced/edited various online marketing videos. Our Story Begins is a piece she co-produced, directed, wrote and narrated. Animalvision is a short program Alison made with her husband just for fun (before they had a kid and they had time for such frivolities!)

She has filmed pretty much everything, from political rallies (with Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry), to Hollywood actresses and groundhogs (Andie Macdowell and Nibbles,) and 10 foot alligators lounging on golf courses. Alison has also interviewed a wide array of guests, including actor Jason Alexander, filmmakers Michael Moore and William Arntz, and author Joe Dispenza.

And finally…she also trained as a Private Investigator in Phoenix, Arizona, and Denver, Colorado, specializing in surveillance, so she knows how to spy on people and tail cars.

Let’s see…what did we leave out? In another lifetime she also held down several waitressing jobs, worked in a South Carolina library, a couple of daycares (kids love her), at an AT&T digital media center, and she sold lingerie at Dillard’s (where she met a lot of perverts.) So when her books hit the bestseller list (she has big dreams this one) and someone asks the inevitable ‘where do you get your ideas and find your characters’ questions, she can just send them her resume.
